Power cuts

The list of planned power cuts and faults is published by EAC (Electricity Authority of Cyprus), which runs the distribution network. On the EAC website the list is available in English and Greek, district by district. We fetch it every 15 minutes, join the Greek and English names and match villages to a gazetteer, so they can be found in Russian, English or Greek.

The detail goes down to a village or part of a village: EAC does not list streets. Restoration times for faults are estimates that EAC revises as work goes on.

EAC keeps no archive: once a power cut is over, it disappears from the list. We record every one, so village and district pages show a history that starts on the day we began collecting.

The grid

Demand and generation by source are published by TSO Cyprus, the Transmission System Operator. The data comes in 15-minute steps: wind, estimated distributed generation (mostly solar), conventional plants and total demand, plus a demand forecast for the day. The archive back to 2018 comes from TSO's yearly files.

The bot

The Telegram bot sends an alert as soon as EAC announces a planned power cut in the chosen village or district, reminds you the evening before and reports faults. It only stores the list of your subscriptions. For now the bot speaks Russian.
